“ITB China brings together key stakeholders from the global travel industry”
EgyptAir is back at ITB China as an Official Partner Airline for the second year in a row. ITB China News sat down with Captain Mohamed Elyan, Chairman & CEO of EgyptAir Airlines, to discuss the partnership and China’s strategic role in the carrier’s growth agenda. He highlights EgyptAir’s expanding connectivity and outlines how the company is adapting to the evolving expectations of Chinese travellers.
EgyptAir is once again an Official Partner Airline of ITB China this year. How did the partnership benefit you last year? Why is it strategic?
Our partnership with ITB China last year delivered strong visibility for EgyptAir within the Chinese market and created valuable opportunities to strengthen relationships with travel agencies, tour operators, and key industry partners. It also helped us open new communication channels and expand our marketing reach across one of the world’s fastest-growing travel markets.
The partnership was highly strategic because China represents a key market within EgyptAir’s growth agenda, especially with the increasing passenger demand between Egypt and China. ITB China also provided an excellent platform to showcase EgyptAir’s expanding network, service enhancements, and fleet modernisation plans.
“Our goal is to further strengthen EgyptAir’s presence in the Chinese market by building stronger partnerships.”
What are your goals for ITB China this year? Why is this an important event for you?
This year, our goal is to further strengthen EgyptAir’s presence in the Chinese market by building stronger partnerships and promoting the growing connectivity between Egypt and China. We also aim to highlight the recent developments within EgyptAir, including expanding the international network, improved customer experience, and fleet modernisation strategy.
ITB China is an important event because it brings together key stakeholders from the global travel industry and offers valuable opportunities for cooperation, business development, and tourism promotion.
Why is the Chinese market particularly strategic for EgyptAir?
The Chinese market is strategically important for EgyptAir due to the continuously growing tourism, business, and cultural exchange between Egypt and China. We are witnessing strong and increasing passenger demand between both countries, which makes China a key pillar within our long-term expansion strategy.
Additionally, EgyptAir plays an important role in connecting China with Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and North America through the Cairo Hub and our expanding international network.
What are EgyptAir’s development plans for the Chinese market? Strengthening any existing routes?
EgyptAir currently operates 17 weekly flights connecting Cairo with four major Chinese destinations: Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Hangzhou. We continuously assess opportunities to further strengthen our presence in the market based on passenger demand and market dynamics.
At the same time, we are focused on strengthening our existing routes through service enhancements, improved connectivity, and greater operational efficiency. This comes alongside EgyptAir’s broader network expansion with the launch of new destinations such as Venice, Los Angeles, and Chicago.
What are some trends that you are noticing for Chinese travellers coming to Egypt and how are you adapting?
We are seeing increasing interest from Chinese travellers in cultural tourism, historical attractions, premium travel experiences, and multi-destination trips. Travellers are also placing greater importance on comfort, digital services, and seamless travel experiences.
To meet these expectations, EgyptAir is continuing to invest in improving onboard services, customer experience, and fleet modernisation. The introduction of new aircraft such as the Boeing 737MAX8 and Airbus A350-900 will further enhance passenger comfort and operational efficiency.
