NEW NIGHT TRAIN ROUTE LINKING HAMBURG AND STOCKHOLM TO PREMIERE ON SEPTEMBER 1ST

A new night train connection, linking Hamburg to Stockholm via Copenhagen, is set to launch on September 1st, 2022. It will be a joint venture between the State Swedish Rail SJ and two private rail companies.

A new night train route – between Hamburg and Stockholm – will celebrate its premiere this September. The SJ EuroNight will be a daily, year-round train connection operated in partnership between Swedish State Railways SJ with Hector Rail and German railway company, RDC. The new link is seen as one of Sweden’s solutions to achieve climate goals.

The night train will depart at 21:55 hours from Hamburg-Altona and arrives in Sweden’s capital at 09:55 after travelling approximately 1,150 km. Departure from Stockholm is at 17:34. The train then continues via Copenhagen and Odense in Denmark, arriving at its final destination Hamburg-Altona at approx. 06:30 hrs.

Stops in Denmark as well as Southern Sweden

Coming from either direction, there is the option of further stops, such as Malmö, Linköping and Norrköping iN Sweden as well as Flensburg in Germany.

The pricing is dynamic, i.e. the price level depends on the booking volume. The lowest price in a 2nd class carriage is about 25€ for a seat. Children up to 15 years of age receive a 25% discount. A child aged 0-5 can share a bed or a seat with an adult free of charge. Young people aged 16-26 receive a 15% discount and senior citizens a 10% discount.

Four class of travels are proposed: A first class sleeping compartment with beds and private shower and WC; a second class sleeping compartment with bed and private sink. Breakfast is served in both classes. Couchette (sleeper) 2 Class for 1-4 or 1-6 people with berths and seating carriage 2 Class. Ticket sales have already started online and will also be offered through various European distribution channels.
