BALKANS INTERNATIONAL WINE COMPETITION CELEBRATES 10TH ANNIVERSARY

Spawned in 2012, the Balkans International Wine Competition is the sole event and festival celebrating wine culture in the Balkan area, covering Albania, Bulgaria, Greece, North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia and Turkey.

It is a special event this year, as the Balkans International Wine Competition and Festival (BIWCF) is celebrating its 10th anniversary. Over the years, the event has turned into a celebration not only of the best quality wines in the region but also of local cultures and art of living.

The BIWCF competition already took place from June 2nd to 4th in the Northern Macedonian capital, Skopje. The festival of the 10th-anniversary edition is however organised in Sofia from June 17 to 19. It is taking place in an open-air stage and a “Wine Town” specially created in front of the National Palace of Culture. Professionals and visitors will be able to taste and discover up to 1,000 wines of the region. This year the festival will integrate the award ceremony “Balkan Wine Oscars 2021”.

The festival will give visitors the opportunity to try delicacies from the different national cuisines, while listening to Balkan ethnic music and an opera programme from the Euro Atlantic Art Foundation, whose mission is to provide help to disadvantaged children and youth, as well as those with special educational needs. “I am happy that BIWCF already turned into a trademark of quality wine and Balkan culture,” explains Galina Niforu, Director of BIWCF.
