Mallorca selected for international honours

Mallorca is at ITB Berlin NOW presenting its strategy and measures that establish the island as a reliable, safe and sustainable travel destination.

The Spanish island is represented by the Fundación Mallorca Turismo and 15 municipalities at the Balearic Islands stand.

Recently, Mallorca became the first European travel destination to be awarded the UNWTO.QUEST certificate. The award highlights the quality and excellence of tourist destinations around the world, placing the island as the first Destination Management Organisation in Europe and fourth in the world to receive this honour.

Meanwhile, the airport of Palma de Mallorca has received the Airport Health Accreditation (AHA) certificate from the Airports Council International (ACI), which has designated it as a “safe airport”. The programme assesses compliance with recommended health measures from ACI, ICAO, EASA, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO). According to the ECDC, “Air traffic and the airport environment are characterised by low virus prevalence, with less than 1% of detected cases of Covid-19 and no increase in transmission rates”.
