WHY SHOALHAVEN IS TURNING INTO A TOP DESTINATION FOR TRAVEL AND CULTURAL TOURISM IN AUSTRALIA
It may not be the most famous, but the region of Shoalhaven has become a key destination for cultural tourism in Australia.
Roughly a two hour drive south of Sydney along the coast of New South Wales, the region of Shoalhaven has become a top destination for cultural tourism in Australia. This is down to a variety of initiatives and programmes, including a revamp of the Bundanon art museum, one of the most-popular destinations in the region.
The City of Shoalhaven has a comprehensive arts programme that has drawn visitors domestically and worldwide too. Art events and exhibitions and events are connected via an arts and culture guide, which features seven art trails that take tourists across the region.
Coralie Bell, Tourism and Economic development manager at Shoalhaven City Council, said: “Even with all those wonderful arty things to do across the seven art trails, a visit to Bundanon has to be at the top of the list”.
The Bundanon Art Museum is located on a 1000 hectare wildlife sanctuary. It was originally the home of Australian artist Arthur Boyd, and has since become a key destination for cultural tourism in the area. The building is partly built into the earth, with a recent €28 million ($30 million) development.
