WIZZ AIR GROWS ITS ABU DHABI BASE

After less than 6 months’ operation out of its new Abu Dhabi hub, the Hungarian low-cost carrier Wizz Air is already flying to 24 destinations from the Emirate, adding three to five new destinations almost every month.

The new Abu Dhabi air carrier is a joint venture established between ADQ- a local investor- and Wizz Air Holdings plc.

“The launch of Wizz Air Abu Dhabi recognises Abu Dhabi as a bold new frontier for ultra-low fare travel in the region,” said Wizz Air Chairman József Váradi when launching the new service in January. “We most welcome the opportunity to contribute to Abu Dhabi’s efforts to provide a new segment of travel in the UAE in line with its socio-economic vision. We are looking forward to working in strategic partnership with our stakeholders in Abu Dhabi for the benefits of the country.”

Wizz Air Abu Dhabi started with seven destinations and four brand-new Airbus A321 neo aircraft. Further destinations have been successively added in the last six months. Since April, the airline added flights to Bari, Belgrade, Kiev, Luxor and Sohag in Egypt, Muscat and Salalah in Oman, Santorini as well as Tel Aviv.
