QATAR UNVEILS NEW 3-2-1 OLYMPIC AND SPORTS MUSEUM Β

Qatar has opened the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum, one of the biggest sports museums in the world.

The museum – which has been in development for over 15 years – will exhibit memorabilia and artefacts from Olympic legends, as well as highlighting local athletes and stars of the future.Β

It is located next to the Khalifa International Stadium, one of the venues for the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup – which takes places in Qatar between 21 November until 18 December. The building is 19,000 square metres big, with 17,000 objects on display.Β

Some of the items on show include Muhammed Ali’s boxing glove, which he wore when he won a gold medal at the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960. On a larger scale, there is a Ferrari which was driven by Michael Schumacher, as well as a shirt from Brazilian football icon Pele. The exhibitions were made possible by negotiating with the International Olympic Committee and other federations, as well as browsing private collections.Β

The museum features as part of a programme by the Qatar government, who have invested over a billion euros in building the country as a reputable destination for sports and tourism.
