QANTAS ANNOUNCES NEW DIRECT FLIGHTS BETWEEN WESTERN AUSTRALIA AND EUROPE

Australia’s national airline Qantas will open its second direct flight to Europe this June with a new route linking Rome to Perth in Western Australia.

This is not only good news for Europe but also for the State of Western Australia, which officially reopened its borders to all vaccinated international visitors on March 3. It was the last one inside the Commonwealth of Australia to open up to foreign and domestic visitors.

The reopening of all of Australia to foreign travellers will help promoting Qantas‘ newest route to Europe.

From 22 June 2022, the Australian national carrier will start to operate the only direct service between Australia and continental Europe, flying three return Sydney-Perth-Rome flights per week to meet demand over the peak European holiday season. The route will be served until October 6.

The new flight will cut more than three hours off the current fastest travel time to Rome using the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, with cabins designed specifically for long haul travel. Customers will be able to combine Qantas’ Rome flights with its double-daily direct flights between Australia and London. This will give additional flexibility for both Australian and European travellers as they will be able to fly in and out of different cities on one return ticket.

Western Australia to reap the benefits of a non-stop flight to Europe

Tourism Western Australia managing director, Carolyn Turnbull, has welcomed the introduction of another direct international service to WA, following the pre-Covid success of the direct London-Perth route.

“As the only direct service between Australia and continental Europe, Qantas’ announcement highlights the importance of Perth as the western gateway to Australia,” she said.

She also pointed out that the non-stop London-Perth flight would inject an estimated A$29 million (€19,517m) into the economy of Western Australia.
