Malaysian state Selangor targets an influx of seven million tourists by the end of next year

ITB Berlin News spoke with Azrul Shah Mohamad, the CEO of Tourism Selangor, about the “Visit Selangor Year 2025” initiative

What makes Selangor stand out on the market?
Selangor boasts a vast array of tourism options, including gastronomy, ecotourism, agrotourism, adventure tourism, sports tourism, theme parks, and arts and culture, as well as a splendid array of tourist attractions for all ages. The SplashMania water themepark in Kuala Langat, the Selangor Sekinchan daddy field in Sabak Bernam, firefly sightseeing by Sungai Panjang agro tourism, the Sky Mirror in Kuala Selangor, paragliding in Kuala Kubu Bharu, and white water rafting in Hulu Selangor, are only a few.

Selangor is the state closest to Malaysia’s capital Kuala Lumpur, right in the heart of the country, and hosts three main gateways: Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), Subang Skypark, and Port Klang Cruise Terminal.

In addition, for tourists entering Malaysia through the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), the State of Selangor has recently launched the Selangor Hop On Hop Off Bus to help tourists explore the region.

What major projects or initiatives can we expect in the future that will enhance the region’s attractiveness?
As a part of the “Visit Selangor Year 2025” initiative, which is targeting an influx of seven million of tourists by the end of next year, Selangor will organise more than 100 events and festivals starting this year and running through 2025, to attract domestic and international tourists such as the Wings of Kuala Kubu Bharu in Hulu Selangor, PJ Half Marathon 2024 in Petaling Jaya, and Moto GP in the Sepang International Circuit.
