Munich, a first presence at ITB Berlin’s LGBTQ+ Tourism Pavilion

Munich has been a permanent feature at ITB Berlin for decades. But this year, for the first time, Germany’s third biggest city is present inside the LGBTQ+ Pavilion. “Our new city administration wants to promote more the city to LGBTQ+ travellers. This niche market has grown in importance,” explains Robert Leckel, Partner Management at the City of Munich which is in charge of tourism, events and hospitality.

There is a desire to show more visibility to the travel trade and consumers although Munich has been a member of the IGLTA since 1999. “We want to spruce up this image of a conservative city. Come to a beer garden in the Glockenbach area, to see that we are a great place to visit! ” adds Leckel.
