ITB Berlin: A hub for sustainable and responsible tourism
This year, ITB Berlin 2025 is focusing more than ever on sustainable tourism and social responsibility in response to travellers’ increasingly heightened sensitivity to these topics. Visitors to the show can listen, meet and discuss with high-profile panels at the ITB Berlin Convention and discover forward-looking initiatives by exhibitors from 26 countries in Hall 4.1.
ITB Berlin has become a hub for exchanging innovative ideas on sustainability, diversity and inclusion along the tourism value chain. In the Adventure Travel & Responsible Tourism zone in Hall 4.1, over 80 exhibitors from 26 countries are present. This includes Travelife, a leading certification programme for sustainable tourism, represented together with 40 co-exhibitors; the European Centre for Eco and Agri Tourism (ECEAT) with a larger stand than last year; while atmosfair and Myclimate are presenting carbon offset projects.
The Thai Responsible Tourism Association and Blue Alliance Marine Protected Areas from France are exhibiting for the first time this year, presenting sustainable travel products for Indonesia, Tanzania and the Philippines. The Pacific island states of Palau and Tonga also aim to draw attention to the impact of climate change.
At ITB Berlin Convention, today will be dedicated to strategies for overcoming social, ecological and geopolitical challenges. One highlight will be the panel discussion at 12.45 p.m. “Is Tourism coming to an end? From Overtourism to Sustainability Governance”, on the Blue Stage in Hall 7.1a.
For the first time, ITB Berlin is also cooperating with the Menschen helfen Menschen (People help People) project. In addition to lunch bags, exhibitors can purchase a bag to donate to the Berlin charity, which specifically supports socially disadvantaged people. Finally, in a move to favour low-carbon public transport, trade visitors, students and exhibitors can book a ticket for Berlin public transport company (BVG) in a ticket shop inside the show, the result of a new collaboration between ITB Berlin and BVG.
