Trip.com Group and WTTC unveil Technology Game Changers joint report

At an ITB Berlin press conference tomorrow, Trip.com Group and the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) will reveal the findings aimed at providing a strategic understanding of the technologies and digital trends transforming the industry

A concise and focused analysis of sixteen key emerging and breakthrough technologies, the report is an essential guide to staying ahead of the tech curve with insights and analysis that enable travel and tourism business leaders to successfully navigate an evolving digital future.

As the pace of technological innovation accelerates around the world, it is set to introduce a future of change where innovation is not just incremental, but truly groundbreaking. Transformational technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), are already reshaping operational models and customer expectations across the travel and tourism sector, as well as enabling enhanced productivity, creativity and growth.

In this fast-paced environment, standing still can mean falling behind, making continuous innovation essential for travel players’ sustained success. This is something the travel sector has already understood. A Trip.com Group Momentum 2025 report explored the accelerating trends driving the future of travel, with 80% of survey respondents agreeing that AI significantly influences their travel planning.

The Technology Game Changers: Future Trends in Travel and Tourism report offers a forward-looking perspective of the opportunities presented by 16 groundbreaking technologies that stand to revolutionise the future of travel and tourism, categorised under the four overarching trends of Digital Technologies, Financial Technologies, the Future of Mobility, and Breakthrough Innovations.

Covering everything from Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) schemes to Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) and Smart Cities, the report carefully examines each technology’s key features as well as its critical importance to the travel and tourism sector. In addition, the report includes projections of these innovations and their potential impact on the industry in both the short and longer terms.

Technology Game Changers: Future Trends in Travel and Tourism also highlights practical case studies and examples of organisations already leveraging these technologies to achieve tangible improvements in operational effectiveness and a better traveller experience. One such case study is the Trip.com Super App, a seamless end-to-end travel companion offering a suite of travel products through an all-encompassing platform. Trip.com Group’s Super App serves 24 languages across 39 countries and regions and integrates a wide array of functionalities. Beyond flights and hotel bookings, the app is a global ecosystem that enhances the traveller’s experience at every stage of the journey.

At the planning and booking stage, travellers can receive personalised itineraries and real-time booking assistance through Trip.com Group’s AI-powered travel assistant TripGenie, which is also spotlighted in the report as an AI use case. When it comes to travel management, travellers can stay informed through the Super App’s centralised interface that consolidates reservations and itineraries across all Trip.com products. The Super App also enhances on-the-ground experiences with practical tools like instant hotel address translations, ensuring smooth communication and navigation in unfamiliar environments. And, once the journey ends, the app facilitates post-trip engagement.

Customer service, a key part of the travel experience, is also enhanced via technology, with the Trip.com Super App boasting around-the-world customer care via its 16 international sites in over 20 languages and AI technology is further leveraged to handle millions of customer interactions annually, significantly reducing response times and improving resolution rates.
