Western Australia secures funding for regional tourism organisations

Although the State of Western Australia is unlikely to see a return of foreign travellers in 2021, the State government has confirmed funding for its five regional tourism organisations. They will receive more than €16.5 million in funding support over the next five years.

From 1 July 2021, Tourism WA funding will be shared by Destination Perth, Australia’s South West, Australia’s North West, Australia’s Golden Outback and Australia’s Coral Coast for marketing and overall coordination of tourism in each region.

Tourism WA will work with the regional tourism organisations and other stakeholders to develop destination management and marketing plans. Marketing priority will be given to the intrastate market as long as international borders remain closed. Western Australia is also present at ITB Berlin NOW with the slogan “Adventure Awaits”.

Tourism WA’s Partnerships and Industry Senior Manager Kym Francesconi says the five-year funding provides RTOs with the certainty to plan over a longer time period. “Our relationship with our RTOs is so important – they are our eyes and ears on the ground and have incredible knowledge about their local products and the needs of their region,” she said. “I look forward to working together with them over the coming years to create comprehensive plans that lay the foundation for a successful future.”
