Oman Airports: More direct flights to key markets and emerging destinations
ITB Berlin news spoke with Oman Airports CEO, Sheikh Aimen, about strategies for the future and the role of the airports in the Sultanate’s overall tourism strategy.
How was the year 2023 for Muscat International Airport? What are your expectations in 2024?
2023 was a year of recovery and growth for Muscat airport. We witnessed an increase in passenger traffic, reaching pre-pandemic levels, thanks to our strategic initiatives and the global resurgence in travel. Total passengers at Muscat reached 12.6 million, up 46.7% with international passengers totalling 11.5 million. For 2024, we are optimistic about continuing this upward trajectory.
Do you expect any new destinations or new airlines in 2024?
We are in discussions with several airlines to introduce new destinations and welcome additional carriers. While specific details are still being finalised, our goal is to include more direct flights to key markets and emerging destinations.
Are you planning new services in 2024 or beyond at your main airports?
We plan to introduce a range of new services and developments to enhance the passenger experience and operational efficiency. These include technological advancements for smoother, faster check-in and security processes.
