ITB Berlin NOW – More important than ever

Studiosus is the European market leader in the cultural tours segment, and every year, company COO, Peter Strub, is present at ITB Berlin. We asked him why the show is so important for him.

We normally publish our tourism brochures in September, so March is a good time to talk about what to change for the following year, and what to introduce as a new product. Last year would have been my 34th ITB in a row, so I am quite experienced with this event, and I love it! ITB Berlin NOW 2021 is a good chance to meet all those partners from around the world on a virtual basis.

… (ITB) is even more important than in normal years, because there’s much more to discuss than just tourist offerings

It’s even more important than in normal years, because there’s much more to discuss than just tourist offerings. It’s not only hotels, activities, sightseeing, and new attractions in the country. It’s also about getting a feeling of when a country might open – and under which conditions travelling might be possible. We are talking not only about quarantine, but also about whether there is a size limit for groups, what hygienic protocols have been put in place in hotels and in bus companies. Is it only possible for FITs to travel, or is group travel also possible? There are many new questions coming up.

Tell us a little bit more about your session at the convention.
This year, there is one topic of particular interest for us, and that will be the topic of our ITB panel discussion on Friday. That is that the German Parliament will introduce a new law that tour operators have to also check the social responsibility of all their partners and providers; if they respect the international laws of labour, and how they treat employees. It is something that’s not really new, but the legal basis will be, when the law is introduced in summer.
