WHY ANGUILLA HAS BECOME A KEY DESTINATION FOR GLOBAL TENNIS TALENT

Top resorts and a successful academy has made the island of Anguilla a hub for tennis talent in the Caribbean.

The Caribbean island of Anguilla has been recognised as a must-visit destination for tennis players and professionals. Locations such as Malliouhana, a 25-acre property with three beaches and two hard courts, from the Auberge Resorts Collection, have proved popular with visitors from across the globe.

Visitors to Anguilla can test their skills by pairing with a student from the Anguilla Tennis Academy (ATA), which also allows guests to play on their courts for a small fee. The ATA was founded in 1996, and is a non-profit organisation that operates all year-round. Academies like this run summer programmes that help skilful players transition into scholarships and perhaps professional playing careers. Thus, Anguilla has become something of an “incubator for Caribbean tennis talent” as put by Travel and Leisure, with its academy offering many resources, and drawing the eyes and participation of international coaches.

Resorts like the Belmond Cap Juluca, feature courts with scenic backdrops, which are visited by young and old alike. Academy students that do not reach the heights of professional tennis can find employment in such destinations, meaning they can continue practising their passion in a service-based setting.
