CAPELLA ARRIVES IN HANOI

Despite four months’ delay, the Capella Hanoi is the latest five-star property to open in Vietnam’s capital.

It can be considered a brave step to open a five-star hotel in Vietnam while the country remains largely out of reach for most international travellers. After a delay of over four months, the Capella Hanoi opened its doors during the first week of April.

The property is a luxury 47-bedroom boutique hotel designed by star architect Bill Bensley, the creative brain behind Capella Ubud in Bali. Located close to Hanoi’s majestic French-style opera, the hotel aims to pay tribute to its prestigious neighbour. Its decoration was inspired by the glamour of the opera and is conceived as a place to the “rendez-vous” spot for opera’s artists, singers, composers, stage and costume designers after the performance.

Each suite is designed after opera tales and stories from world opera houses. Guests will find a curation of set designs, opera costumes and vintage 1920s tableware decorating the hotel. This is particularly true for its signature restaurant, Backstage, as well as the sophisticated art deco salon, Diva’s Lounge. While international guests might be a rare vision for now, Vietnam is now looking to reopen to international travellers in September with no quarantine for vaccinated visitors.
