JORDAN BOOSTS ITS AIR CONNECTIVITY IN 2022

With new routes scheduled through WizzAir, Turkish Airlines, United Airlines and of course the national airline, Royal Jordanian, Jordan is boosting its appeal to foreign visitors.

In partnership with the Jordan Tourism Board (JTB), the Jordanian government has been looking at ways to boost the country’s appeal to international travellers. With a host of new routes in and out of Amman and Aqaba airports in place for 2022, its efforts have paid off.

One of the biggest developments to date is the start of four year-round routes to Amman and four seasonal routes to Aqaba by low-cost airline WizzAir. Flights now connect Amman to Budapest, Milan, Rome and Vienna while Aqaba will be connected to Bucharest, Budapest, Rome and Vienna. Affiliate airline WizzAir Abu Dhabi has also launched flights to both Amman and Aqaba in April. According to the JTB, WizzAir should help bring 170,000 additional travellers during the first year of operation.

Another major news is the arrival of United Airlines, the first US carrier to operate flights to and from Jordan. The airline has started its operations there with three weekly services from Washington D.C. to Amman in a Boeing B787-8 beginning of May. Turkish Airlines is also resuming a seasonal flight from Antalya to Amman. 

Last but not least, national carrier Royal Jordanian has big plans for expansion in cooperation with the JTB. “We want to double our fleet and number of passengers within the next five years,” explains Yassar Al Mahali, Royal Jordanian regional director Jordan, West Bank and Gaza. “We will start to fly to Montreal and Toronto and are looking at more US destinations. We also want to add more more flights to Germany and France. We will also dedicate two all-economy class aircraft to offer attractive fares and bring new travellers into Jordan.”
