THAILAND OPENS TO TRAVELLERS
Thailand has announced to open again its borders to foreign travellers. The Kingdom is moving rapidly to a full opening with few restrictions.
On November 1st, Thailand will again start to welcome foreign travellers eager to be back in the “Land of Smiles”. The Kingdom’s economy is heavily dependent of tourism (which makes up to 20% of its GDP and provides an income to over 8 million people). The closure of Thai borders consequently had a devastating effect, with many people barely surviving. Time then for a change as all tourist regions in Thailand have now over 70% of their population vaccinated.
From November 1st, fully vaccinated travellers arriving by air from 46 countries and territories will be able to travel to Thailand without enduring a long quarantine and restrictions measures. Among authorised countries are most EU nations, Switzerland, the UK, Canada, the USA, Australia, the UAE, China, Japan or South Korea. More countries should follow in December before a planned full reopening in January.
New rules include the showing of :
- A Thailand Pass QR Code, which can be applied for via https://tp.consular.go.th/ from 1 November, 2021.
- A Medical Certificate with an RT-PCR lab result indicating that COVID-19 is not detected, issued no more than 72 hours before travelling.
- An insurance policy up to US$50,000, which should cover the cost of the treatment and other medical expenses associated with being infected with COVID-19, including in-patient hospitalisation for the whole duration in Thailand.
- A payment confirmation for no less than a one-night stay upon arrival at an approved quarantine facilities or certified hotel. The one night in quarantine is necessary until the result of a compulsory PCR test on arrival. If testing is negative, travellers are able to move around the country.
- A Certificate of fully completed vaccination showing proof of a vaccine approved by Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) or the World Health Organisation (WHO) no less than 14 days before their travel date. For those having recovered from COVID-19, proof includes a Certificate of Recovery within the last 3 months and a Certificate of Vaccination with at least one dose of the approved vaccine at least 14 days before their travel date.
- Travellers must download and install a specified tracking application (MorChana). A last antigen test will be provided for self-testing on day 6 or 7.
