PERTH GOES ON A MICE HUNT

Business Events Perth is promoting the benefits of Western Australia as a new motor of the MICE industry in Australia and indeed the entire APAC region. In an interview during ITB India, we asked the organisation’s Chief Executive Officer, Gareth Martin, what their key message is to the industry.

Perth, Western Australia has transformed in the past five years, making it a safe and contemporary destination to host your next business event.

Billions of dollars have been spent transforming the city, including major developments like the 60,000 seat new sports stadium (voted the world’s most beautiful stadium in the 2019 Prix Versailles international architecture awards), AUS$1bn Perth Airport redevelopment, over 30 new hotels and the new $400 million WA Museum Boola Bardip that opened in November 2020, which is filled with unique event spaces.

Perth is now a world-class city ready to host business events of all delegation sizes in its many state-of-the-art venues, and delegates will experience extraordinary natural wonders, clean air and clear blue skies. Western Australia’s large land area and careful controls throughout the COVID-19 pandemic means it can lay claim to being one of the safest destinations in the world to hold a business event once international travel resumes. Our venues, hotels and tour operators all have COVID safe management plans in place. And because of Western Australia’s excellent record in handling the pandemic, the state resumed face-to-face meetings in July 2020. We look forward to hosting clients from the South Asia markets as soon as we can.

Please tell us a little more about the roles and outlook of your organisation in developing the sector.

Business Events Perth’s charter is to market Perth and Western Australia as the preferred destination for conventions, exhibitions and incentive travel groups. Our bank of in-house expertise and industry knowledge ensures that meeting, incentive or exhibition planners have access to current market intelligence, local support and assistance to help bring a business event to Western Australia.

Perth’s fabulous new sports stadium

With billions of dollars invested into building new and enhancing existing infrastructure, both before and during the pandemic, Perth is more than ready to welcome an increasing number of delegates to our beautiful state of Western Australia which is safe, spacious and warm. Prior to the global pandemic, strong demand to travel to Perth was seen from India, as a result of matches from the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) T20 Men’s Cricket World Cup scheduled to be held in Perth in October 2020. These have now been postponed to 2022, and while we await details of the fixtures, we are hopeful this event will serve as an important step to opening up Perth and Western Australia to the Indian business events market.

Business Events Perth plans to be competitive in our bids for incentive and corporate travel. We hope with an increased local awareness and knowledge of Western Australia’s high quality and unique offerings, supported by improved air links, Indian companies and corporate travellers will see the value in a business trip and incentive group travel to Western Australia.
